I had a mommy moment today where I realized that I was going to be THAT mom on the kindergarten steps bawling like a baby as my babies go off to school. I started practicing for that moment today. Today was Avery’s first dance class, I teared up in the car as she was asking questions about the class, I teared up watching her learn to point her toes, and I teared up when she came running out of the room with a huge smile on her face saying, “That was so fun mommy. It was kind of hard too, but my teacher just taught me how to do everything. I want to do that again!”
Elliana has recently fallen in love with puzzles. She’ll sit for long periods of time and just play with the puzzles. Today I sat down with this shape puzzle that I haven’t done with her in forever and thought I would video her figuring out all the shapes. Its fun to watch her mind work!
She has always been interested in shapes and figuring out how things work. I guess this is the perfect avenue for her creativity!
Tonight at dinner, Avery shared her concern about when the new baby is born.
“Mommy, will you still make us breakfast when the baby comes out?”
Me: “What do you mean?”
“Will you still make us breakfast after the baby is here?”
Me: “Of course”
“The baby won’t be too sad and cry if you don’t hold it. Daddy could maybe hold him so you could still make us our breakfast?”
Good to know that her biggest concern at the moment is if I’m going to still be able to provide her all the meals she’s used to =)
Saturday morning we all decided to bake Cinnamon Coffee Cake. It was a simple recipe so the girls could easily help…which they loved! The recipe was so good and so easy, that I’m going to paste it below. (all credit goes to Sara Beth. My family is loving all the cooking from scratch recipes you sent us! Thanks!!!) The bread came out of the oven around 10:30am. I took the picture below at 12:00pm. Do you think our family liked it?CINNAMON SENSATION COFFEE CAKE
¼ cup margarine
¾ cup sugar
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 ½ cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
1 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup brown sugar
3 Tbs flour
2 tsp cinnamon
4 Tbs margarine
½ cup nuts, finely chopped (we left the nuts out. I’m not a big fan of nuts in my food!)
Preheat oven to 350. Spray 9×9 pan to grease. In a medium bowl, cream margarine and sugar; beat in egg. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt in a separate bowl. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Stir in vanilla. Pour into prepared pan.
To make topping: In a small bowl, mix together sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Cut in margarine with pastry blender or fork. Spoon half over batter and swirl. Spoon remaining topping over batter and sprinkle with nuts. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
Avery turned 3 today! Its hard to believe that my little girl went from this

Happy Birthday Avery! I love you very much.

Avery has been trying to figure out this whole baby in mommy’s tummy thing. Here have been the progression of her thoughts over the last few weeks.
- “so does the baby eat through your be bo (belly button) or how does it get food?” This was followed by every time I sat down, Avery would come running with her water cup and try to pour water or milk into my belly button because she thought the baby was thirsty.
- “so how does the baby get out of your tummy? Do you think it can come out for my birthday party and then go back in?”
- “Was I in your tummy when I was a baby? Was Elliana?
- Avery: “So when I get to be a baby again will I go back in your tummy?
Me: “You don’t become a baby again. You just keep getting bigger and bigger until one day you’re as big as mommy.”
(she now sat really still and just thought for about 2 minutes before asking…)
Avery: “so when you were a baby, were you in your own tummy?”
- Tonight’s question was: “Was daddy in your tummy when he was a baby?”
I won’t even tell you the conversations we’ve had about nursing! She still remembers me nursing Elliana so there have been many interesting conversations! Her little brain is working overtime trying to figure this whole baby thing out =)
