My Little Rule Follower

She informed me the other day that she thinks next year she needs to go to “real” school and not just home school.

Apparently she was talking to one of her friends who attends public school and discovered they only have ONE recess break during the day.    However, during our homeschool, I give her LOTS of breaks during the day.  Her thinking is that because she gets lots of breaks and the other kindergarteners at the “real” school only get one break, she is convinced I’m doing school wrong.  In fact, she told me I’m completely breaking all the rules and so just has to go to a “real” school next year.

Just thought I’d document this moment so I can show it to her next year after she discovers how much she likes having only ONE break a day =)

Eavesdropping

I overheard this sweet boy having a conversation with our hermit crab the other day. It went something like this:

“Sammy, did you know God made you?  And guess what?   God MADE YOU PERFECT!  Yes, he did!”

Imagine a really excited voice along with those words you, and you will begin to understand why I smiled and teared up all at the same time.

Eavesdropping on your children can be so satisfying =)

Birthday Wishes

Before I get to all the Vietnam posts this week, I had to stop and write about my oldest child.

This sweet young lady turned 6 this past week and I can hardly believe how grown up she has become!  Or that I’m old enough to have a 6 year old! =)

We celebrated her actual bday with some presents from Grandma and Grandpa and a little tea party at the American Girl Doll store.  A friend had given her their old American Girl doll and Avery has fully embraced the whole American Girl doll phenomena.   Fully. Embraced.

The tea party was a blast but the store itself is a little overwhelming!  So many things that we just “had to have”!   Avery still talks about how “Samantha” got her own pink lemonade and how much fun she had.  Birthday success =)

Her celebration came this past weekend.  She had 3 friends over for a little bubble gum party.  We played games, laughed, ate cake, and had a great time.

Happy Birthday sweet Avery!!  Words could never express how much we love you and are so thankful for you and your silly, sweet, kind, loving, caring, patient, fair, and responsible personality!     Love you more than all the pink ice cream in the world.

His Prayers

For the past 3 days, the little man has prayed this prayer:

Dear Jesus, help mommy to not ever go back to Vietnam.  Thank you.  Amen.

I do believe he has made his opinion known about what he thinks of me traveling.

Guess Where We Went?

Have I mentioned how much I love the month of October?

October is just not complete unless we go to a pumpkin patch.

Not only is the whole experience just a blast, but  I get to snap cute pictures of these beautiful young ladies.

I had a goal of getting at least one picture of me with the kiddos.  I just finished a photo album for Avery for her birthday and realized I’m ALWAYS behind the camera and NEVER in front of it.  I thought it might be a good idea to have a least one picture of me in her birthday album!

We even found someone to take a little family pic for us.  Have I mentioned how much I love my family?

And because it was my last family day before leaving for Vietnam, we celebrated by not going home for naps!  Instead we played all day long.  I even managed to snap this picture.

Yes, he is buckled in on the carousal.  You never can be too safe.

The perfect last day together as a family before I  leave the country for 10 days.  Man I’m going to miss those smiles, but I’ve now started counting down.  5 more days =)

Oklahoma

There are some people who have a special place in your heart.  This is one of them.

She is so special to us that we gave our oldest child her name.

Last week, we had the privilege of spending a few days with this special woman.

The kids were enamored with their great grandma and her toys.

The little man will now say throughout the day, “I just want my great grandma”

Of course any time a 2 year old goes on vacation, exhaustion accompanies him.

But that didn’t stop us from having a great time all week.

The little guy became pretty good at trying to steal all of Uncle Gary’s Mater cars.   Justus and Gary seem to be equally obsessed with Mater  which made for some good bonding between the two.

And Aunt Deanna and Uncle Gary have this perfect spot in the back yard where the kids could play in the dirt for hours.  Add in the fact that there were four dogs to chase around and my kids thought they were in heaven.

Just had to put a picture in of J in time out.  This was officially his time out chair for the week and he used it often.  As I said, vacation is hard on a two year old.

Nana and Pappaw were only able to spend a few hours with us while we were up visiting, but we made those hours count.  Everything from racing, to star gazing, to putting lipstick on Pappaw happened in those few hours.

It was simply a perfect week in Oklahoma.

Its Still Cute

No matter how many times we make brownies together, the end result is still cute

A Glimpse at Family Worship

Here’s a little glimpse into our family worship time.

At least the singing portion of our time together. I didn’t film the Bible reading or the prayer time although I somehow need to figure out how to film the kiddos praying without them knowing I’m filming. Kids talking to Jesus is just precious and should be preserved forever =)

For Your Listening Enjoyment

Elliana and Brent’s duet:

When I Grow Up

Me: “What do you want to be when you grow up Aves?”

Her: “A fairy!!!”

“Mom, I really really want to be a fairy.  I’m going to learn whatever I need to learn to be a fairy and I’m gonna practice and I’m gonna do it.” (said with much determination)
