Family Fun Day

I won’t bore you with the details of our boring morning this week.  But I will leave you with a sneak peak of what we spent our afternoon and evening doing! It is dance recital season!  Dress rehearsal was Friday.  The girls are in 2 different recitals and I ended up being the room mom for both of them.  Avery’s dress rehearsal was first.  She did fabulous =)Then the next few hours were spent with Els at her rehearsal.  Exhausting is the only adjective to describe keeping track of six 2-3 year olds! And Grandma and Grandpa arrived on Friday as well.  YEAH!!!!!!

And look what Brent surprised me with a the end of the evening.A little b-day cake with my parents.  My birthday week just keeps on getting better!

Check back later for a little video of the girls dancing on stage.  It will melt your heart =)

Family Fun Day

Season passes to the waterpark may be the best thing we’ve done in a while.Bunk beds are ideal for fort making.  This fort began as a “girls only” fort, but after some cries from baby brother it quickly became “the Minter family fort”.  Good thing too.  Daddy is way more fun in the forts than mommy. Its now officially HOT outside so Popsicles are a must. Especially after the hard work of replanting bean plants the girls have tried desperately to grow.  The plants have seen better days, but we’re hopeful. Then off to bed for the kids and the grown ups made some home made chocolate chip cookies.   YUMMY way to end the day.

Family Fun Day

Family Fun Day was a laid back day. The girls declared this morning a PJ day, and I whole-heartedly agreed!  This afternoon we got a couple fun things done, but the highlight of the day was….

Justus got his first haircut!!!

The Minter children usually don’t get a first haircut until way after their 2nd birthday.  I think this may be the first of many things that I must do differently with boys.

And now I want another baby…NOT REALLY,  but I do tear up thinking this is the last 1st haircut I’ll ever take a kid to.   I’ve been in the baby stage for almost 5 years and now I feel like I’m coming out of it a bit.  It feels weird!

Family Fun Day

The theme for the day was “the wise man and the foolish man”.     Most of the conversation with the girls this morning consisted of the difference between a wise man and a foolish man.  So it was only appropriate to sing the song over breakfast.  “The wise man built his house upon the rock….and the rain came tumbling down.”  Its fun to watch little brains process new information! Then Brent left to go help friends move, and the girls and I made cookies to take to our friends who were moving. We spent the rest of the morning at a playscape area at a local church.  This place is amazing and the kids always have a blast when we go.  By the grace of God, we left right before the huge storms came through and were able to make it home in time for lunch and naps. The rest of the afternoon was a lazy afternoon.  The rain outside made it seem appropriate to do things like watch cartoons and fix vacuums.  And we got new neighbors a few weeks ago, so they came over after dinner and hung out this evening.  What a blessing!!  A perfect way to end a relaxing day.

Family Fun Day

The McManus clan was in town for family fun day this week!!  We got to spend the morning doing fun stuff like

(shhhhhh…don’t tell their daddy about this next pic!)  I’ve already gotten the lecture from Brent about how I need to buy boy dress up stuff for when the little man gets older!

Followed by and yes, the whole family participated in that much needed activity!  Unfortunately,  the little man didn’t get the memo about the naptime needing to be extra long this particular day, so he also got some fun time doing this with daddy. We ended the evening with a family bike ride/walk to the video store Followed by family movie night.   Tigger and Pooh and the Super Duper Super Sleuths was the chosen movie for the evening.  Did you know that if you eat celery, you can fly?  And carrots make you see really really far away.  My kids have been talking about their carrots and celery ever since.  I think we may rent this movie again soon!

Family Fun Day…video version

And just because I didn’t capture these box race cars on video, I wanted to add a little pic. Our weekly babysitter made these with this kids. See why I said she’s the best?!!!

Family Fun Day

We attempted to go to the zoo, saw the 30 minute wait to get into the alternative parking lot because the normal zoo parking lot was already full, and decided to do something else instead.

Around the area of the zoo, there are a few other options.  The mini train was our first thought, but we didn’t have any cash.  As we pulled out of the road, we saw a sign that said “Log Cabin Village” and thought “why not? Let’s try it”.  So we went.
None of us had ever been there so we didn’t know what to expect.
It was a blast. The kids got to play in the “woods”, learned how candles were made, and got a few interesting history lessons about the type of potties the pioneers used.
They also had a “hands on” house where the kids got to play in the kitchen, play with a spinning wheel, gather eggs from a chicken coup, grind coffee, and pump water.
Not too bad for a last minute revision of plans!

Family Fun Day

This post is just a few days late…oops =)

But Family Fun Day was a bit low key this week. Brent’s sick, the oldest is recovering from an ear and sinus infection, the middle one has horrible allergies, and the youngest one has been sick for 3 weeks. So we moved a bit slow this Friday =)

A leisurely walk to the park to climb some trees and have a picnic lunch
then we let each girl use money from their piggy banks to go to the Revive Carnival at church.  Revive is our special needs ministry and every year we have a carnival at the church and all proceeds go to Revive.  The girls had a blast. Little man was still sick, but he’s a trooper. We ended the evening by making some peanut butter chocolate chip cookies and watching “Franklin”.  I found this recipe out of desperation one girls’ night when I was preggos with the little man.  I googled “peanut butter cookies using 4 ingredients”  and found this recipe.  It is amazing and the girls can make it themselves; although I have yet to leave the kitchen while they are making it!  In case you want to try it out, here’s the recipe:

1 egg

1 cup sugar

1 cup peanut butter

1 tsp vanilla extract

Stir it all together, make it into little balls on a cookie sheet, and put it in the oven at 350 for 7-10 min.  This is the first time we added chocolate chips to the recipe and it was really good.  I don’t think you can mess this up!

And I end this post with a little prayer request for the little guy.  We’re on week 2 of pretty intensely high fevers.  We did a round of blood work today, X-rays earlier this week, and plenty of doctors visits.  We are going back in on Monday morning to review the blood work.  If you could pray that his little body would be healed, I would appreciate it.  He’s too little to be this sick.

Family Fun Day

Maybe more of a Family Fun Evening this week.  The little guy had his 12 month well visit, Brent needed to do our taxes, and the girls needed some down time this morning, so we put off our family fun until after naps today.

Then it was photo shoot time!  One of our good friends is a photographer so we spent the evening with her and her family, and she took the oldest one’s 4 yr old pics and the little guys 1 yr old pics.  I can’t wait to get them and post some of them.  They looked amazing!

While the photo shoot was happening, the rest of the kiddos had a blast playing in the sand/mud. I think one of the reasons our families hang out so much is that our kids are pretty much all the same age.  They all have a blast together which makes the adults able to have a blast together. The other reason we hang out together all the time is because this family is just fun.    We love the Borns! =)

And just a couple pics from today because I liked them

After the picture taking was over, I made lasagna for dinner, and we ate, talked, played, and stayed out until 8:30!!   I read someone’s tweet on the way home that said they were just waking their hubby up from a nap ,and I thought to myself, “A nap?  Isn’t it bedtime now?” Then it hit me.  I really am old.   Maybe when my kids stop going to bed at 7pm, I’ll stop thinking 8:30pm is late…  Maybe…

Happy Friday to you all!!

Family Fun Day

Tunnels, reading books, and a big pancake and egg breakfast. A great way to start off the morning.

A surprise trip to go get the first born a new car seat.

J outgrew his car seat a LONG time ago, so we finally made the trip to get the oldest a booster seat, moved E up to her sister’s old seat, and put the boy in E’s old seat. Here he is getting a taste of what life will be like for him in a MONTH when he turns 1 and can face forward in the car. I can’t believe he’s almost 1!!!

We then stopped at the mall to eat, play, and shop a bit with our gift cards from Christmas. Then home for naps while Brent went to work for a bit. We finished off the night with some pizza and movies.   Avery picked out the movie Balto which ended up actually being a fun movie for Brent and I to watch as well.  There’s only so much Dora we can sit through =)   We were kind of grateful though that the movie was a bit scratched (it was a free movie from Family Video) so it skipped some of the movie and turned a 1.5 hour movie into a 45 min movie.  I’m not sure how much longer we have until the kids start noticing things like that!  I’m grateful for their naivety right now =)

Avery even led us in family worship for the night =)  Well sort of.  She started us off, Brent finished us.

I’m so thankful for our family day.  We ran into friends who have older kids.  As we listened to them talk about taking their kids to various practices and games throughout the weekend, it made me so grateful for the stage of life we are in.  I won’t lie.  There are definitely moments when I can’t wait for the days when all kids can dress and feed themselves, but I am grateful for this stage of life and the amount of time we just get to be together.
